What is the typical wait time for a visa appointment?

Wait times for U.S. visa appointments vary widely by embassy/consulate and time of year, and busy seasons (like May - August, before fall semester) tend to be longer. Check the current wait time for your location on the U.S. Department of State website and apply with plenty of lead time.

Plan ahead, but don’t apply too early

If you apply for your visa too early, it could expire before you use it to enter the U.S., especially if your country has a shorter visa validity period. Always confirm both your visa's validity and your program start date.
