What are my responsibilities for keeping my sponsor informed of changes?

You must report certain changes to your sponsor within 10 calendar days — your phone number, email, U.S. residential address, and site of activity. Promptly flag other significant changes as well. Failing to report can result in a termination of your SEVIS record and your legal status.

Report within 10 days:

• Phone number, email address

• Your actual, current U.S. physical address

• Site of activity (where you may change it without prior authorization)

Also notify your sponsor promptly of:

• Changes to program activities or objectives

• Plans to travel outside the U.S.

• Anything that may prevent you from completing your program

• Changes in employment or funding

• Problems with your program, disciplinary actions, or legal issues

• Any other matter affecting your J-1 status

When in doubt, contact your sponsor or international office before making changes.
