What is SEVIS?

SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) is the U.S. government's internet-based system, maintained by the Department of Homeland Security, that tracks F, J, and M status international students and exchange visitors and their dependents during their time in the U.S.

 

Key things to know

  •  Your Form I-20 (F-1) and Form DS-2019 (J-1) are issued from SEVIS.

  •  Your school's DSO, or your J-1 program sponsor (ARO), maintains your SEVIS record.

  •  Keeping your SEVIS record accurate and "active" is essential to maintaining your legal status.
